I heard a radio commercial on my way home for some outfit called "Tango". But it might have been "Tangle". The announcer didn't speak very clearly. Anyway, apparently there's some "inappropriate content" on the Innerweb thingie. Who knew? They will filter all that naughty stuff out for you, so's yer kidz won't see it. Isn't that awesome?? They won't let anything get posted to the Innerweb thingie until it has been appropriatized by their crack staff of reviewers.

Lazy parents are an incredibly lucrative market. I need to get me a piece of that pie...

Any 13-year-old boy who doesn't already know more about computers and the Innerweb Thingie than his parents and the knobs at Tango, doesn't deserve to look at inappropriate content.

The IWF censors content in the United Kingdom, and judging by some of the corporate contributors, it looks like we should be very concerned about their control over access to websites.

Australia has heavy censorship as well. Nothing new I'm afraid.

Actually Australia has rather low censorship at the moment. True XXX is illegal (except in the capitol??!) and I believe web hosting of Adult material is a big no no (who the hell would want to host adult content in Australia anyway, it's wayyy too expensive) but TV/Radio is fairly good, you can hear 4 letter words being muttered over both and TV certainly will show full frontal nudity after 8:30pm. The Internet filtering that is being tested should never go through but you never know. If it was to go forward getting around it will just be a matter of either using a VPN or a proxy of some sort both very easy for someone with very little computer knowledge to setup.

I think the whole point of censorship isn't to stop you viewing/reading things your interested in, it's just to make it not in your face the whole time. If you want to see someone getting their heads chopped off you'll find a way to get a hold of the video, however you can't just turn the TV on in western countries and see this. This can also lead the to the problem that people forget about actions that are taking place in the world. Even tho the war in Iraq is reported to be the most bloody now than ever before why don't we see more news reports instead of all the news reports we got shown while America was bombing the hell out of the country. You also have interviews with chinese citizens being shown video of Tieman square who believe it's fake because they have never heard of it happening. How are a people to learn from mistakes if they aren't aware history.

The biggest problem for Western citizens is who decides what is censored and how are they accountable. You trust your parents as a child to pick the things you are allowed to watch while growing up. As an adult you should be able to make these decisions for yourself and not be told by other adults what you can and can't see.
